Following a four-way pitch, we’re delighted to be appointed by award winning attraction, Lakes Aquarium to handle their marketing in 2010.
What a start to the new year it’s been for them – remember back to those dreadful pictures of the devastating floods in Cumbria? Well the Aquarium came off pretty badly, was forced to close its doors to visitors and get on with the painstaking task of clearing up and organising the repairs. Don’t worry about the fish and creatures, they’re perfectly safe, oblivious to what’s going on, possibly puzzled by the lack of ‘humans’ they’d previously been used to observing, on a daily basis.
The good news is that Cathy and her feisty team have literally rolled up their shirt sleeves, got on with the clear-up and are in the position to open up temporarily this half term, with a view to opening up properly at Easter, hopefully back to normal – only with really really good marketing collateral, thanks to us!!!
Visit www.lakesaquarium.co.uk or even visit the aquarium itself (make sure you check-out opening times before you make the trip though).

Back in November, ‘Mystic Claire’ worked on a winter mailing for Best Western Hotels, promoting 25% off bookings with the hotel group in the New Year. We’d developed an execution that was intended to be ‘cryptic’ and ‘arresting’. The headline incorporated “…..it’s going to be -25 this winter” – an obvious play on the level of discount on offer. It would be ridiculous, preposterous even, to think that -25 was a reference to the weather! Well there you go, who would have guessed that we were actually predicting the temperature – and with some accuracy! For ‘Mystic Claire’s next campaign can I suggest she works on “Phew, what a scorcher!”
If you fancy a stay at a Best Western Hotel yourself, go to www.bestwestern.co.uk/winter there’s 25% off a January or February stay and an another 25% in spring or summer too.
I know I promised no one more snow related posts, but this only is indirectly related!!

Polly on the snow
I think perhaps people are starting to tire of hearing about the snow all over the news, however one more snow based post from us.
Before Christmas Sandi was worried she wouldn’t be able to have Christmas dinner, being snowed in meant she had to ride to nearby town Kirky Lonsdale on a neightbours tractor to collect a turkey. As a result she missed the annual Foundation end of term Christmas meal at Bistro Saigon. She did however regale the whole table (and restaurant) via load speaker with a rendition of We wish you a Merry Christmas, accompanied of course by Polly and Granny.
Sandi finally made it back to work on Monday for the start of term, however was back to square one again on Tuesday when more snow meant she was once again stranded in the wilds of Lancashire. After trying valiantly to get out of the village today, under Mini and tractor power, she is once again house bound until the snow and ice and snow and ice start to melt. Good luck Sandi, we miss you!!

The snow has fallen and continues to fall thick and fast here in West Yorkshrie, however we’re battling on and apart for extended journey times, a near miss with a dustbin lorry, countless wheel skids, people working from home and increased heating bills we seem to be doing OK.
Some of the worst weather we’ve seen in 30 years apparently, I wouldn’t know being only 21, however you’ve got to admit it is very pretty and there’s nothing quite like stomping through ankle deep freshly fallen snow. Enjoy!!

A very Happy New Year to yo
u all. If the Christmas excesses haven’t finished you off, perhaps the snow has. We’re certainly on skeleton staff today (perhaps skeleton’s the wrong word considering our average weight gain of 5lbs over the festive period).
So what does the new year hold for us all? Our Neil is hoping for his 15 minutes of fame, he’s pictured here taking a break from rehearsals from the touring production of Fame in which he’s the enthusiastic understudy for Tyrone, the dyslexic, charismatic, black hip-hop dancer from a lower income blackground. Break a leg Neil. x
